New Zealand - Christchurch & Canterbury
Welcome to Christchurch and Canterbury.
English settlers arriving in four ships in 1850 laid the foundations for what is today one of New Zealand's most English looking cities.
And it's Christchurch's beautiful neo gothic architecture, and modern buildings that have become the focus for many visitors.
Climb the 134 stairs of the Cathedral's spire for awe-inspiring views of the city and to get your bearings. Or get a coffee and visit the shops and craft market at the Arts Centre, the imposing stone buildings that once housed the University.

Fast forward a hundred years to the breathtaking glass, steel and concrete Christchurch Art Gallery and magnificent collection within it.
Further afield you can also visit the charming colonial French settlement of Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula.
